01 — The job
This is an entry-level customer sales and service role with an independent Vector Marketing office. You schedule time with a customer and meet them one-on-one, either in person or on a video call.
In the appointment you show Cutco kitchen products, answer questions, and help customers place orders. The presentations are low-key and fun, not a high-pressure pitch. You are not asked to knock on random doors or to cold call.
Students can apply from Riverside and the Inland Empire areas, California and from Las Vegas, Nevada. Part-time is the usual fit during the school year. Full-time is available when you want more hours, including summers.
02 — Why students take it
Days, evenings, and weekends all exist. You and a manager rebuild the week around classes, sports, work, or family. There is no minimum number of hours.
The day-to-day work is communication, time management, customer service, goal setting, and being on a team. It is real sales practice, including what to say when someone is not interested.
New representatives attend a three-day training seminar. Materials are provided, so there is no fee to start. Raises and advancement depend on performance. Some people who started in this role later managed an office, including the person who runs this one.
Most representatives are full-time students. Scholarships for full-time students are sometimes available, with conditions. Many representatives qualify for internship credit. Your campus makes that decision, so ask them.
Pay. The current base rate is $27 per appointment. Base pay does not depend on whether the customer buys. There is also incentive pay when a customer places an order. Each week you are paid whichever is higher, the base or the incentive, not both added together. Payday is Friday.

05 — The manager
John Baker · Division Manager
John Baker runs the Desert Valley Division of Vector. He was born and raised in Riverside County, graduated from Rancho Verde High School in 2012, and started the February after his 18th birthday. It was his first job. He was in college, working part-time, and pursuing a dream of becoming a professional BMX rider. He is a big sports fan, and he wanted hours that could move when life did.
“The flexibility and the pay are what attracted me to the job. I quickly learned this was something more, somewhere I can grow, get out of my shell, and be myself.”
He paid for college while he worked. At 20 he was promoted to run an office as a paid internship. In 2015 he stepped into a district executive role and has led the East Riverside team since. What he talks about most is the people, and a culture he describes as work ethic, honesty, and a positive attitude.
14 years with Vector.
